BDG McColl provided architectural and design services throughout the lifetime of the Motorola cellular telephone manufacturing plant, creating the interior environment for phase 1, and being responsible for the fast track construction of phases 2 and 3 to provide an additional 25,000sq.m. of flexible production and office space, supported by a high bay distribution warehouse. This included a reconfiguration of the original masterplan to allow for a further extension of similar scale.
Subsequent major projects undertaken by BDG McColl included extension to the staff restaurant, new staff entrance and gym, crèche, infrastructure work, in addition to various internal alterations to cater for the evolution of the business at Bathgate.
Motorola won the British Council for Offices ‘Best Industrial Building UK and Ireland’ category in 1995, as well as being awarded design commendations by the Civic Trust, Times Gestetner Top 100 Offices Awards, Edinburgh Architectural Association, and West Lothian Council.
