BDG McColl was first appointed by Jenners to develop designs for the menswear department in Jenners prestigious Princes Street department store. The environment created, selling many high quality and well known designer labels, is a significant departure from what many have previously considered to be Jenners traditional image. It incorporates a small café area looking out across St Andrew Square where customers can enjoy a coffee and relax.
The menswear department has been followed by further projects for departments such as ladieswear, knitwear, gifts, jewellery, and perfumery, amongst others. Each design has been developed to reflect the brand qualities of Jenners, and importantly to fit into the complex structural and visual environment that is presented by the Jenners building. It was therefore a challenge after working in this rich and traditional setting for BDG McColl to be commissioned to develop designs for the fit out of Jenners new 2,800 square metre store at Loch Lomond Shores in a modern steel framed and curtain walled retail unit, without compromising any of Jenners traditional values. The resultant open plan store, which opened in September 2002, is without doubt recognisably Jenners.
